Paradox M25 Alarm Panel First Impressions

One of the things with wireless products in the 918MHz range is just how long certification takes, so it’s been a few months from playing with the demo kit at the BGWT office to product arriving on shelves. We have full story on M25 coming, so these first impressions are not meant to steal the big story’s thunder – instead we’ll keep it simple.

Paradox M25 Alarm Panel First Impressions At BGW Technologies Highlights Ease Of Installation, Depth Of Functionality.

Paradox M25 Alarm Panel First Impressions – Late last year SEN’s editor, in serious need of headspace, clambered into the Forester and thundered down to Melbourne to get a demo of the new Paradox M25 alarm panel from BGW Technologies’ Stanley El Komala.

One of the things with wireless products in the 918MHz range is just how long certification takes, so it’s been a few months from playing with the demo kit at the BGWT office to product arriving on shelves. We have the full story on M25 coming, so these first impressions are not meant to steal the big story’s thunder – instead we’ll be keeping it simple.

PERMACONN

Sitting down at the demo table and picking up the hardware – wow, the control panel is small. This M25 RJ-45 and Wi-Fi connectable head unit (there’s also an M25 LTE version in stock), is by far the most compact 100 zone alarm system we’ve had our mitts on. The build quality across all devices is nice, too. The hub is PoE powered – lovely. An integrated 5000mAh LiFePo battery gives more than a day’s operation, which is plenty for most needs. Current draw is sensor level – only 100mA in standby or alarm.

The system supports up to 10 partitions, 128 users, 100 zones, 45 expansion devices and 128 remotes, and the can scale up to 75 wireless nodes. Wireless communications use GFSK modulation with frequency and encryption hopping in that 918MHz band. Device enrolment is auto learn for wireless and Ethernet devices, and there’s QR code scanning or manual serial number entry for pre-programming.

Something cool about the M25 is that it’s a beginning, not an ending. There’s video verification with 16 proper video streams on the way, and access control is integrated at platform level, with support for 16 doors coming.

We go through the process of enrolling some devices – we’re driving the system via the Paradox mobile app – it’s an easy process without any of the time-consuming hitches that can drag an install out.

As El Komala points out, Paradox has designed the M25 and its ecosystem to make life easy for installers with everything possible covered off and my first impressions endorse his comments – it’s nice kit that’s operationally mature.

Something else I notice on a table awash with devices, is that there are loads of scope to deliver creative security solutions with masses of potential for system growth over time. Stuff like this makes for brilliant sales hooks when installers are looking for differentiation in the residential and SMB markets not just at the point of install. but in a couple of years’ time, as well.

Keep an eye out for the full demo of Paradox M25 coming up soon in SEN – you can learn more about Paradox from BGW Technologies here or read more SEN news here!
