EACH QStor has a 1.8GHz Intel Atom dual core processor, 4GB of RAM and a set of hard drives that are optimised for 24/7 NAS operation, as well as a Gigabit Ethernet interface for fast connectivity. The black cube chassis has decent looks and is ideal for small installations that demand compact solutions that don’t require much physical space.
QMX 45s are built around a Posix-compatible operating system and an MD RAID storage solution. The RAID is based on 4 enterprise-class hard drives (cold swap), that can be operated in RAID modes 0, 1, 5, or 10. The default configuration offers 2TB of storage and can be upgraded to unlimited capacity.
The QMX-45 can be installed and deployed without any specific network expertise in a couple of minutes. It’s a 5-step process: Unwrap, set up, configure and IP address, launch the assistant and you’re done.
This operation is based on a setup wizard that helps reduce the time required for installation. Cameras are automatically installed and integrated into the system making manual configuration obsolete. There’s a single-click web interface that allows modification of specific settings and fine tuning of settings if needed.
Handling this part of the process is MXConfig wizard which searches a network to which it’s attached and establishes the number of Mobotix cameras linked and gives you the IP address, the model number and advises what firmware is running on each camera.
The QStor QMX 45 supports all popular network protocols. Bonjour is used to scan the network for devices and services and the NFS protocol takes care of write operation and reads are executed via SMB. Each video camera receives its own IP address and works through an individual NFS share. It’s also possible to access the QMX 45 via Mobotix video management software.
There are 5 solutions in the range – the QMX-20 (2 HDDs), the QMX-40 (4 HDDs) cube units and the QMX 1040 (4 HDDs), QMX 1045 (4 HDDs) and the QMX 2085 (8 HDDs) rackmounts. The QMX 20 will handle 5 cameras, while the QMX-85 can support 40.
QStor sells its units with licence restrictions and so the cost of these need to be factored into the long term expense.
