SEN wraps the week’s news in a fast-food format for readers too busy not to eat with their fingers

SEN Weekly Wraps The News In Fast-Food Format.

SEN Weekly Wrap – SEN wraps the week’s news in a fast-food format for readers too busy not to eat with their fingers and who prefer a little sauce.

Well, tenders keep on trucking – there are too many for us to stay on top of without over-posting them – 2 per EDM is the limit – it’s mostly state and local government – CCTV, access control and alarms. There’s also more happening in security services – patrols, monitoring, response. We have 8 unpublished – that’s a lot.

A couple – Fairfield Council seeks alarms and CCTV, Victorian Department of Education seeks alarms and CCTV, WAPOL needs security officers, security patrols and security operators at 7 major sites, South Australia’s Return to Work Board seeks security and surveillance here, City of Greater Geraldton needs CCTV and access control, Mackay Stadium needs CCTV and fencing, NSW Police wants information on ANPR, Whittlesea needs an automatic pool gate here and more.

Motorola Solutions has bought thermal camera maker, Silent Sentinel, ASIAL has taken its cablers license onto the Go app, DAS has sharpened its pencil when it comes to HALO smart sensor pricing. On the topic of HALO and after a hectic week at the SEN office, we can confirm our test sensor (thanks BGW Technologies) can detect aggression, vaping and something else we’re not prepared to speak openly about.

But we are happy to talk about ASIS’ new ANSI-approved cannabis security standard which, according to ASIS, is “crafted by seasoned experts in cannabis security…and rooted in established and proven security standards”. Given cannabis security is a tricky area in Australia, too, these standards should be high on the reading lists of local consultants and integrators.

SEN Weekly Wraps The News

Gallagher has either just won the install for the world’s largest office building, the massive Surat Diamond Bourse in India, or the system has just been commissioned. Installed by Ardelisys Technologies of Chennai, the system manages 700 doors using 600 readers, and incorporates multiple system integrations.

Meanwhile, Genetec will open its new experience centre at 477 Pitt St Sydney on Feb 27, RISCO has a new video doorbell coming, TP-Link is spruiking its 19Gbps Omada Wi-Fi 7 network, SecuSafe is distributing Akuvox, Inner Range has teased us with some planned new releases for 2024 using the word ‘unification’, France and Portugal have released digital driver’s licenses, Singapore has opened Idemia biometric entry to foreigners.

Australia’s government has proudly announced the Artificial Intelligence Expert Group to oversee mandatory regulations around high-risk AI development and deployment. After many years of waiting for AI regulation to be taken seriously, observers will think it telling the group’s first task will be defining what high risk AI actually is, though in fairness whatever poses a risk today will be something else tomorrow. It’s too little, too late, in SEN’s opinion.

Overseas Texas Health has just installed an AI gun detection and intelligent situational awareness platform at JPS Health, a 582-bed hospital in Tarrant County, Texas. This AI-based system is integrated with the hospital’s existing CCTV solution. It sounds full on but the issue of violence against staff and patients in hospitals is so serious that 40 American states have enacted or strengthened protection laws.

In terms of key trends to watch in 2024 discussed during the week the one that caught our eye as most applying to the electronic security industry was cloud AI – always nice to see the IT industry playing catchup with security technology…
