New Battery Camera Saves Installers Time On Site, While Incorporating 2-Way Audio, Integrated Spotlight and Alarm.com Perimeter Guard Functionality.
New Battery Camera Saves Installers Time – Stanley El Komala, senior product manager at BGW Technologies says Alarm.com’s new ADC-V731B battery camera with 2-way audio and integrated spotlight is perfectly suited to applications where running cable is not an option.
“The recently released cable-free, battery-operated ADC-V731B from alarm.com is now available at BGW Technologies,” says Stanley El Komala, senior product manager at BGW Technologies.
“This isn’t your standard 4MP camera. Cable free and battery operated, it has been designed for use in both indoor and outdoor settings. It features 2-way audio, an integrated spotlight, Perimeter Guard functionality to actively deter intruders, features which transform the device from a passive monitoring tool into a proactive security solution.
“Think about the jobs where getting power to a spot is a pain — the back shed, a front gate, the far corner of a property, or a rental where you’re not allowed to be cutting into walls. You can just mount it and walk away.”
According to El Komala, users might be thinking that a battery-operated camera is going to be high maintenance.
“Our testing shows that the battery life is good and users will easily get a few months out of a charge,” he explains. “The trick is, it only records when something happens, it’s not sitting there filming an empty driveway all day, and that’s what makes the battery last.
“The camera is also packed with clever analytics – it knows the difference between a person, a vehicle and an animal, this intelligence enables it to record only when there’s something worth capturing, so your customer isn’t getting pinged every time a cat strolls past.
“Plus, there’s familiar vehicle analytics on top of that. It can even distinguish a car it knows from one that it doesn’t. This means that when an alert comes through, it actually means something.”
Work it out for your site
How often will you be swapping the battery?
An event-triggered camera draws power when it wakes up. Set the load for the job you are quoting.
A sizing sketch, not a design document. BGW Technologies states users will easily get a few months from a charge because the camera records only on classified events; this model scales that stated baseline by event volume, clip length and spotlight use. It ignores temperature, Wi-Fi signal strength, live-view sessions, firmware behaviour and battery ageing, and assumes no solar panel fitted. Derived figures are SEN calculations.
El Komala says users won’t be disappointed with the 4MP HDR picture quality either.
“At night they’ve got infrared as standard, and then if they want colour footage in the dark, users can turn on the spotlight,” he explains. “The spotlight, 2-way audio, and Alarm.com Perimeter Guard give users complete control, so they can warn someone off before anything happens. That’s a function that users are really liking.
“Meanwhile, installers will appreciate the straightforward install requirements too,” he says. “It runs on dual band Wi-Fi connectivity, and there’s no hub – so that’s less gear in the van and less mucking about at set up. Power’s flexible too.
“The battery pops out and recharges. It can be charged over USB-C or users can pair it with the solar panel accessory, the ADC-VACC-SP4W, and it just keeps itself topped up. Importantly for external applications, it’s IP65-rated, protecting it from the elements, so it copes fine outside in the weather – this matters when a camera is going on a fence line or an exposed wall. The last thing you want is it coming back because water has penetrated the inside.”
According to El Komala, Alarm.com’s new ADC-V731B is an easy camera to sell and an easy camera to install – both very appealing qualities for busy installers.
“You’ve got the smart alerts, a couple of ways to power it, real deterrence built in, and none of it is tied to a power point,” El Komala says.
The new Alarm.com ADC-V731B combines 4MP HDR imaging, IR and colour night viewing, person, vehicle and animal classification, familiar vehicle analytics, 2-way audio, integrated spotlight and Perimeter Guard with cable-free installation.
It uses dual-band Wi-Fi without requiring a hub and incorporates a removable rechargeable battery. Charging is via USB-C, while the optional ADC-VACC-SP4W solar panel can provide ongoing battery charging for remote installations. The IP65-rated housing allows the camera to be installed indoors or outdoors.
