Pano AI Wins Smoke Detection Camera Trial In Western Australia.
Pano AI Wins Smoke Detection Camera Trial – Pano AI has won a $A286,000 Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions contract to provide a smoke detection camera service across Western Australia’s Southwest and Warren regions.
The contract covers a 1-year operational trial involving the installation of smoke detection cameras on communications towers at multiple sites, along with supporting equipment and software.
The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions will use the trial to assess the value of camera-based smoke detection technology as a potential future fire management tool.
By mounting cameras on existing communications towers, the trial will evaluate the ability of the technology to provide remote surveillance across fire-prone landscapes and support the identification of smoke during developing incidents.
How tower-mounted smoke detection worksWatching the horizon, not the fence lineCameras on existing communications towers scan the landscape continuously, with AI looking for the visual signature of smoke in a developing incident rather than heat or a person on a perimeter.

The contract announcement does not state the number of tower sites, the number of cameras, the coverage radius or the detection range, so no distances are shown here and the rings carry no scale. Tower positions, the overlap and the bearing are illustrative of tower-based panoramic monitoring, not a description of Pano AI’s method.
Pano AI develops camera-based early wildfire detection technology combining high-resolution panoramic imaging with artificial intelligence. Its systems are designed to monitor large areas for visual indications of smoke and provide information to assist fire management and emergency response teams.
The company has an established Australian presence and its technology has previously been deployed for bushfire detection applications in Australia.
