BDR Secures Auckland City Mission With Gallagher Command Centre.

BDR Secures Auckland City Mission With Gallagher – Auckland-based security integrator, BDR Security, has secured Auckland City Mission – Te Tāpui Atawhai – using a Gallagher solution managed with Command Centre.

Providing vital support to Aucklanders in need for over 100 years, the Mission delivers services including housing, food, and healthcare across multiple locations, including from its flagship 10-storey site, HomeGround. With around 150 of the Mission’s 250 employees based there, HomeGround required a capable security solution to protect staff, residents, and visitors.

The installation was awarded to Auckland-based security integrator, BDR Security, which chose Gallagher Security’s Command Centre, a platform that integrates alarms, access control, and automation.

The project involved securing 200 access-controlled doors, integrating 100 high-resolution CCTV cameras, securing 80 apartments equipped with battery-operated access control locks, and installing 90 door intercoms.

BDR Security faced installation challenges due to the building’s timber structure, dual exit doors, and the restoration of the adjacent Prince of Wales heritage building. Despite difficulties with cable installation due to limited cavities in the building’s structure, the security infrastructure was successfully completed over 12 months.

Gallagher Command Centre now provides Auckland City Mission with centralised management capabilities, allowing staff to oversee security at HomeGround, as well as at connected satellite sites, effectively.

Key features include remote management of access permissions, comprehensive CCTV integration, anti-ligature door-top alarms, duress alarms, intercom control, lift management, emergency lockdown functionality, and panic button integration. Staff can manage these systems remotely through the Command Centre Mobile App, offering increased operational flexibility.

According to Daniel Nelson, GM Corporate Services at Auckland City Mission, the ease of use and reliability of Gallagher’s Command Centre has enhanced operations, with staff finding the system intuitive, reducing reliance on external support.

Meanwhile, Joel Rickard of BDR Security said a robust security and access system that could withstand some of the unique complexities of the site was critical.

Gallagher…systems are super robust,” Rickard said. “Tenants are interacting with the access readers everyday, so they need to be robust in what can be a harsh environment.”
