NSW Police Need Mobile ANPR Information.

NSW Police Need Mobile ANPR – New South Wales Police Force has gone to market with a request for information seeking details of a mobile automatic number plate recognition solution.

NSW Polce highway patrol vehicles have been fitted with mobile ANPR technology since 2009, when 3 IR cameras were fitted to the highway patrol fleet after a 4 year pilot study.

The MANPR cameras detect number plate details, which are checked against a large database of licence plates, and owners and their disqualifications and criminal convictions, including drink driving, suspensions and cancellations, and negligent driving causing grievous bodily harm (GBH). The system also detects unregistered, stolen and uninsured vehicles.

Police investigators can also add entries for a specific vehicle to show up in real time by requesting a sighting report from the system. Many of these matters are confidential and are covered by public interest immunity.

The MANPR database also includes details of motor vehicles registered to a convicted driver’s address, to prevent the driver from using a car registered to his or her parents, siblings, partner, or other occupants, alerting officers in the field who may check who is driving.

ANPR also allows police to detect unregistered and uninsured vehicles, which is a considerable revenue raiser. The system also allows police to exclude non-suspect vehicles during an investigation, which makes the most of police resources, by honing in.

The present system incorporates 4 IR ANPR cameras fitted to highway patrol cars – it’s possible the system may be extended to additional vehicles in the fleet. Some patrol vehicles also have a live CCTV camera fitted to their roof, which is fed to the traffic management centre. Presently it’s not though mobile phone detection is fitted to highway patrol vehicles.

This RFI has a closing date of March 12 – you can learn more about NSW Police Need Mobile ANPR here or read more SEN news here.
