New AXIS P1486-LE Global Shutter Camera — Axis Communications has released the AXIS P1486-LE Global Shutter Camera designed to deliver distortion-free imaging of fast-moving scenes, alongside updates to its edge analytics portfolio supporting automated number plate recognition.
The P1486-LE uses a CMOS global shutter sensor to eliminate rolling shutter artefacts and motion blur, enabling accurate capture of vehicles and other high-speed targets. This capability is aimed at applications requiring reliable identification, including traffic monitoring, perimeter protection and forensic review.
Integrated continuous and strobing IR illumination supports consistent image capture in low light, with a focus on vehicle and license plate clarity. Combined with the camera’s shutter design, this allows plate capture in conditions that typically challenge conventional rolling shutter cameras.
The camera is built on Axis’s ARTPEC-9 system-on-chip, enabling advanced analytics to run at the edge. This allows real-time processing and event handling within the device, reducing reliance on backend servers and supporting scalable deployments across distributed environments.
Supporting the camera is AXIS License Plate Verifier, an edge-based application developed by FF Group – a recent acquisition by Axis Communications. The application provides automated licence plate recognition for both controlled entry points and free-flow traffic scenarios. It supports dynamic allow lists and block lists, enabling automated responses such as gate or barrier operation, while maintaining searchable event logs for audit and investigation.
The combination of global shutter imaging, integrated IR and edge-based ANPR analytics positions the P1486-LE as a specialised solution for sites requiring reliable vehicle identification and automated access workflows.
