Vivotek VIT04A-W Chroma 24 AI Camera – Vivotek’s VIT04A-W Chroma24 turret camera is designed for continuous surveillance in low-light and mixed-light environments, combining 4MP imaging, AI analytics and dual illumination in a compact, field-deployable form factor.

At the core of the camera is a 1/1.8-inch progressive CMOS sensor delivering 2688 x 1520-pixel resolution at up to 30fps, supported by a superfast F1.0 aperture lens with a choice of focal lengths. This combination enables full-colour imaging down to 0.003 lux, with the system switching to 0 lux operation using integrated illumination when required. Dynamic range is rated at 120 dB using WDR Pro, supporting detail retention in high-contrast scenes.

Illumination is handled by a hybrid 30m system combining infrared and warm light. This allows the camera to operate in covert IR mode or switch to visible light for colour capture and active deterrence-style visibility. Smart IR and anti-overexposure controls manage close-range performance, reducing washout.

The camera supports 48x digital zoom via ePTZ, with adjustment pan greater than 350 degrees, tilt to 70 degrees and rotation of ±175 degrees.

From a video handling perspective, the VIT04A-W supports H.265, H.264 and MJPEG compression, with up to 3 simultaneous streams and configurable profiles. Frame rates of 30fps are maintained across primary resolutions, supporting both live monitoring and forensic review.

Edge storage is available via MicroSD, SDHC or SDXC cards up to 1TB, alongside network-attached storage options, allowing flexible retention strategies without reliance on central recording infrastructure.

AI capability is embedded at the edge via a system-on-chip with a dedicated deep learning accelerator. Object detection supports people and vehicles, including classification of 2- and 4-wheeled vehicles. Attribute extraction includes clothing colour, presence of bags or hats, and vehicle type and colour.

Analytics extend to intrusion detection, loitering, line crossing, unattended and missing object detection, crowd detection and face detection. Additional licensed functions include running detection, parking violation detection and restricted zone monitoring. Path tracking and re-search functions allow operators to trace movement across scenes using metadata.

Audio capability is included via a built-in microphone with an effective range of 5 metres, supporting one-way audio capture for situational awareness.

From a cyber security perspective, the camera includes secure boot, signed firmware and Trend Micro IoT security integration, supporting detection of brute force attacks, cyberattack events and quarantine conditions. Additional protections include HTTPS, IEEE 802.1x authentication, TLS 1.2/1.3 and role-based access control with logging.

The unit supports ONVIF profiles G, S, T and M, enabling integration with third-party video management systems and broader security infrastructure.

Physically, the VIT04A-W is housed in an IK10-rated metal enclosure with IP66 environmental protection, supporting deployment in exposed outdoor environments. Operating temperatures range from -30C to 50C, with IR operation supported to 45C. Power is delivered via IEEE 802.3af PoE, with maximum consumption of 10.7W.

DORI performance is rated at detection up to 60.4 metres, observation at 24.1 metres, recognition at 12 metres and identification at 6 metres, supporting typical perimeter and mid-range monitoring applications.

The VIT04A-W is suited to critical infrastructure, emergency services environments, 24-hour operations, commercial sites, retail, warehousing and education environments, as well as multi-site deployments requiring consistent hardware platforms covering internal and external applications.
